1973 graduate in Forest Management Technology at Haywood Community College.
Forest Technician International Paper Co. 1973-1984. Assisted in the management of about 170,000+ acres of timberland much of which was extremely dense, snake and mosquito infested terrain called pine pocosins and Carolina bays. Management work included timber mapping, timber cruising and inventory, timber marking, timber sale logging supervision, logging road and drainage layout, control burning, wildfire fighting, site preparation and reforestation supervision.
Worked on the timber cruising team for the International Paper 1979 acquisition of 420,000 acres of timberland owned by Bodcaw Timber Company in Louisiana and Texas. The timberland was purchased by International Paper for 805 million.
Involved in the mapping and timber cruise work for the over 100,000 acres land trade between International Paper Company & Weyerhauser on timberland in NC and SC.
Forest Technician Crescent Resources 1984-1988. Employed as a timberland forest technician in the management of approximately 100,000 acres of foothills and steep mountain land mainly along Lake Jocassee, Lake Keowee and Lake Russell. Much of the managed Lake Jocassee mountain area land is now the Jocassee Gorges Wilderness.
Became a Registered Forester with South Carolina LLR 1988
Consulting Forester Natural Properties 1988 - current. As a SC Registered Forester has worked with hundreds of timberland landowners in timber management, timber sales, timber inventory, timber marking, management plans, site preparation & reforestation on over 30,000 acres.
Contract marked thinnings on over 1000 acres of loblolly plantations for Evergreen Timberlands.
Sold timberland acreage for timber companies such as Boise Cascade & Westvaco as well as many privately owned tracts.
